Lesson 11 Key Concepts
2
1. Colored objects or surfaces absorb some colors of light and reflect others.
3
Color filters remove some colors from white light.
2. Color filters remove some colors from white light.
4
3. Subtractive color mixing takes place when colors are removed from mixtures of different wavelengths of light.

Lesson 11 Notes
6
1. Opaque objects appear colored because their surface absorbs some wavelengths of light and reflects others. Ex: Green apple appears green in sunlight because it reflects green light and absorbs all others. It is also based on how our eyes perceive the wavelengths of light reflected.
7
Subtractive Color Mixing:
2. Subtractive Color Mixing: Removing colors (wavelengths) from a mixture of different wavelengths of light. Ex: colored filters: absorb (subtract) certain colors as light passes through but transmit (allow through) others.
8
3. Apparent color of an object depends on the color of light that reaches the eye from the object. Ex: blue vase under sunlight looks blue; however under red light looks black. Under red light, vase cannot reflect blue light as only red wavelengths are being used – therefore it looks black.
