Mood Disorders Psychological Disorders characterized by emotional extremes. 1. Dysthymic Disorder (Depression) 2. Major Depressive Disorder 3. Seasonal Affective Disorder 4. Bipolar Disorder

Depression The most common of psychological disorders.
- Its like a warning that something is wrong.

Major Depressive Disorder
A person experiences two or more weeks of depressive moods. - Includes feelings of worthlessness and diminished interest in most activities.

Dysthymic Disorder Suffering from mild depression every day for at least two years.

Seasonal Affective Disorder
A mood disorder characterized by depression that occurs at the same time every year.

Bipolar Disorder Person alternates between the hopelessness and lethargy of depression and the overexcited state of mania.

Norepinephrine Drugs People with depression may be prescribed a class of drugs called serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors (SNRIs). These drugs raise levels of norepinephrine and serotonin, another neurotransmitter, in the brain.

How do they act around you? If not what are some symptoms that you might be able to identify in someone who you suspect to have a mood disorder? How would you tell them to seek help?
