Lippincott’s Nursing Procedures and Skills
Competency Testing Demonstration Lippincott Williams & Wilkins continues to work to provide you with the features and functionality you need to ensure a competent and confident staff. As a result, today we have an exciting new feature to share with you. Coming in early July 2009 in the next quarterly release, we will be rolling out the new Question and Answer Competency Test feature to all subscribers of Lippincott’s Nursing Procedures and Skills.

Question and Answer Competency Tests
A new tool to help measure the competency of your staff! July 2009 One standard test will be added for each standard procedure. Each test will include 5-15 questions and answers. Users can take tests from any location Institutions will be able to add their own custom tests or edit existing tests. With this new competency measurement tool, you will be receiving one standard test for every standard procedure. Each test will include 5-15 questions and answers that relate to that specific procedure. Users will have the ability to take these tests from any location, regardless of IP authentication. Administrative users can create tests, edit tests, assign users to groups, assign tests to users or groups, and review user's test results. Tests and procedures will be integrated with Healthstream's LMS for those customers that want to access Lippincott’s Nursing Procedures and Skills and the Test option from Healthstream’s Learning Center.

We will also be holding live demonstration sessions in late June 2009 to review these new areas of Lippincott’s Nursing Procedures and Skills. Please visit our website at to sign up today. Here you are viewing the new Lippincott’s Nursing Procedures and Skills homepage. You will note that we have added a new log-in section at the upper right. This log-in is only required to take the competency tests. Users will still be able to access the procedures reference information without any log-in being required. To access the tests as a user, log-in using the screen at the upper right.[CLICK] You will be taken to the My Account screen.

My Account Page Here you are seeing the new My Account page.
From this page, the user can select any test from the list of assigned tests. Under You Have the Following Tests Waiting, if the user selects A Test Name or “Take Test” on a Test name line, the user will be taken to the Test screen Under Your Completed Tests, if the user selects A Test Name, the user will be taken to the completed Test screen. The completed Test screen will show the user's selected answers, the correct answer, and the rationale for the answer. If the user selects A Related Procedure Name under either section, the user will be taken to the Procedure.

Competency Tests Upon selecting to take an assigned test, they will be presented with test view. Users can then go in and take the assigned test by selecting their answer with each question. If the user does not answer a question, it will be considered incorrect. If a user wishes to clear all answers they can select reset. If the user selects Yes on the confirmation, all answers will be cleared and the user returned to the Test. If the user selects No, the answers will be maintained and the user returned to the Test. If the user selects Cancel, a confirmation will display. If the user selects Yes on the confirmation, all answers will be lost, the Test will be regarded as if it was not taken, and the user will be taken to their My Account screen. If the user selects No, the answers will be maintained and the user will be returned to the Test If the user selects Submit Test, the test will be submitted, the answers checked, and the Test Score calculated and displayed.

Test Score Screen Once the user has submitted their test, they will receive a score screen from which they can choose to print the score, browse procedures, view their results or return to their My account screen if more tests need to be completed. [CLICK] If they choose to view their results, they will see their selected answers, the correct answer, and the rationale for the answer.

Admin: Creating and Editing Groups
In order to make test assignment simpler, level 2 users and administrators will also have the ability to create groups from users in the system. On the Users tab of the administrative section, level 2 user and administrators will have the ability to manage Groups (for example Create Groups, Edit Groups, and Delete Groups)): To Create a Group Select New Group, [CLICK] Add the Group name and the Examinees for the Group by using the right and left arrow buttons. If you click save, the group is saved. Otherwise you return to the User tab and the group is not created. To Edit or Delete a Group, On the Users tab screen, highlight the Group you wish to edit and make the desired changes either to the group name and/or members of the group. If you click save, these changes are saved. If you click Delete, a confirmation message will display. If the you click Delete Group on the confirmation, the Group will be deleted.

Admin: Assigning Tests
Within the administrative area, there will also now be a new “Tests” Tab. In this tab, you will find a test associated with every standard procedure. Each Test will be preceded with a checkbox and the letter S, C, or D. S means this is the standard test, c is for custom tests for when you have edited or created a new test, and D for a draft test. The administrator (or evaluator) will click the box preceding the Test(s) that they want to assign, and then click the Assign Test(s) button. [CLICK] From the Users and Groups list, the evaluator will select the Examinees and/or Groups that they want to assign the Tests to. The evaluator moves Examinees and Groups to the Examinees list by using the arrow buttons between the two list boxes. If the evaluator selects Back or Cancel under the Examinees list, they will be taken to the opening Manage Tests screen. Tests that were selected will continue to be selected. If the evaluator selects Confirm Assignments under the Examinees list, they will see this screen. [CLICK] If the evaluator selects Finish, a message displays that the Tests were assigned successfully and the evaluator will be taken to the opening Manage Tests screen. If the same Test is assigned to the same Examinee, and if the Examinee has not yet completed the Test, a message will display that indicates the issue. The evaluator will not be able to advance from this screen unless they adjust the issue or cancel the session. Users may take a test only one time per assignment by the evaluator but after completing the test can be reassigned the test as often as desired by the evaluator

Admin: Test Results A "Test Records" tab will be added to the administrator area. Evaluators can sort by any column, View 10, 25, 50, 100, or All records, Search by Examinee name, as well as Filter by "Date Assigned" or "Date Taken“, Complete or incomplete Tests, Evaluator name, or Score. They are able to view the results of the individual tests if they have been completed by a user and they can then choose to Print Selected scores, Print All, or Delete Selected. They can also export the scores using XML or CVS. They call also sort the columns by selecting the column heads.

Admin: Customizing Tests
On the Tests tab screen, Administrators and Level 2 users will have the ability to Edit Tests, Delete Tests, or Create Custom Tests. If a custom procedure has been created, a custom test may be created to accompany that procedure if you choose. Every test must be associated with a procedure so you must always have a custom procedure completed before starting a custom test. To create the custom test, select the title of your new custom procedure. When you highlight that name, the create custom test field should become available. If you click Create Custom Test, you are taken to the New Test screen. [CLICK] The question text area will be blank. Click Add Question to go to the Create Question screen shown here. Add the question, answer options, correct answer, and rationale and then click Save to save the question and return to the Create Test screen. The question saved is then formatted on the Create Test screen If the you click Cancel, you are taken back to the Create Test screen. The question entered is not saved. If you click New Question, the question displayed is saved and the form is blanked so you can add another question.

Admin: Editing, Deleting, and Reinstating Tests
Delete Test On the Tests tab, if the evaluator selects a Test and clicks Delete Test, a confirmation message will display. If the evaluator clicks Yes on the confirmation, the Test will be deleted. If the evaluator clicks No on the confirmation, the evaluator is taken back to the "Tests" tab. If a standard Test is deleted, the standard test is added to the Reinstate Test option. Reinstate Test [CLICK] On the Manage Tests screen, if the evaluator selects Reinstate Test the Reinstate window will open with a list of the Tests that can be reinstated. The evaluator will be able to preview the Tests before reinstating. Edit Test [CLICK] On the Manage Tests screen, if the evaluator selects a Test and clicks Edit Test. the Edit Test screen displays. [CLICK] All the questions for the Test will be displayed. To edit a question, the evaluator will click the Edit link on the question line. [CLICK] The question will then display on the Edit Question screen so that the evaluator can add their changes. The New Question button will not appear on the Edit Question screen. To delete a question on the Edit Test screen, the evaluator will click the Delete link on the question line. A confirmation message will display. If the evaluator clicks Yes on the confirmation, the question will be deleted. If the evaluator clicks No on the confirmation, the evaluator is taken back to the Edit Test screen. If a standard Test is edited and saved, the standard test is changed to custom and the standard test is added to the Reinstate Test option.
