Noun Person, Place, Thing or idea The dog was chasing his tail.

Verb A word that shows action or state of being Example: Larry ran to the store. Larry is a man.

Adjective A word of description (modifies nouns) Larry always wears a yellow shirt to dinner.

Adverb A word that modifies a verb, adjective or another adverb. (hint, often ends with “ly”) Jill wrote quickly to get all of the notes in her notebook.

Pronoun A “substitute” noun He will receive an “A” in English this year. (He could stand for John for example)
