1 Pre-requisites for High school Credit Courses
Algebra HISD Readiness Assessment and rubric Must complete 6th grade VG Math/7th grade VG or Pre-AP Math Biology Campus Readiness Assessment and rubric Must have completed 6th and 7th VG Accelerated science Spanish 7th grade Spanish-must have an overall ELA average of 85% at the end of 6th grade. 8th grade Spanish-must pass 7th grade Spanish with an 80% average overall, 85% or higher in ELA, met standard on ELA STAAR and pass all core classes. Principles of Information Technology (PIT) Must meet passing standard for 6th or 7th ELA/Math STAAR. Must have an overall ELA average of 85% at year end, pass all core classes Successfully complete tech apps with 85 or higher Concepts of Engineering Must have passed PIT with an overall average of 85%. Met standard on ELA/Math STAAR 85 or higher average in core classes

2 8th Grade Capstone Courses
Capstone Part I Capstone Courses are the following: History Fair, Science Fair, Creative Writing, and Concepts of Engineering Capstone projects will be facilitated through the aforementioned classes and Fine Arts Electives Timeline September Students will decide their topic Present Proposal for approval Action plan and timeline Students will meet every week with their Capstone Teachers November Each student will have completed a detailed outline and will begin to write a 7-10 page research paper, due in January, that asserts a strong claim or essential question and includes specific, detailed evidence to support that claim/explore questions.   January The research paper is due. Capstone Part II February-April Students will have the opportunity to begin work on the creative piece of their project; working with Capstone advisors (Teachers) to fashion a creative piece—perhaps a dance, a musical performance, or a documentary film—that will be presented to an audience of parents, sixth and seventh graders during the “Capstone Symposium” (GT EXPO) day in April.
