2 Workshop Aims Introduction to the NQA and indicators
Explore a whole school approach to substance use and misuse and developing self esteem To provide an opportunity for networking and information sharing.   A chance to share best practice approaches to developing pupil self-esteem and self-awareness in relation to substance misuse.

3 Eligibility for NQA 9th year of active involvement in local Healthy Schools scheme Must have achieved Phase 5 Sustained approach to embedding health 33 schools have been awarded the NQA, approx. 2% of all maintained schools. The target is for 10% of maintained schools to achieve the NQA by March 2015. For assessment in Sept 2013 –started Sept 2004 or earlier. Able to demonstrate a positive whole school approach to health Partnership working and support

4 NQA health aspects Substance Use and Misuse Safety
Mental and Emotional Health and Well Being Personal Development and Relationships Food and Fitness Environment Hygiene 7 aspects are identified some of which link very closely with the objectives of the AWSCP and the aims of today’s conference

5 Each aspect has 4 Indicators
Leadership and Communication Ethos and Environment Family and Community Involvement Curriculum

6 Substances covered by N.C. and PSE
4.1 Schemes of work identify a range of aspects of substances and reflect policy 4.2 The curriculum develops skills to resist unwanted peer pressure 4.3 Curriculum resources used reflect current guidance.
