What is missing? People are …….. distributed around the world. Population density is used to find out Population density is measured in… Population density (where people live) is determined more by ………………… which make an area more or less attractive to settlers. Other factors we must consider are …………… such as if work is available in a place! unevenly how people are distributed around the world People per km2 Environmental factors Economic factors!
2
World Population Density – by country
Western Europe and Asia are densely populated North America, South America and Africa have a low population density Can be used for discussion purposes to encourage students to identify sparsely and densely populated regions and countries of the world. Links to the next activity – physical and human factors. Alternatively, students can write a description of the distribution of population at a global scale.
3
World population density assessment
Task: Find 1-2 places in the world that are sparsely AND 1-2 places which are densely populated! Describe where each place is in the world Describe the population density AND distribution of the country Explain why this country is sparsely or densely populated (either as a whole or in areas!) Can you see any problems arising from this situation? If so what? (What would you do about this situation?)

I can describe the features of places
Skills: PLACE (WHAT PLACES ARE LIKE) SPACE (WHERE PLACES ARE) HUMAN AND PYSICAL PROCESSES (HOW HUMANS AND NATURE AFFECT HUMANS AND NATURE! SKILL 4 5 6 7 8 Place I can describe the features of places I describe in detail characteristics of places I can describe and begin to explain characteristics of places in different locations in Europe and globally I am able to analyse the characteristics of places by investigating a wide range of places I am able to analyse the characteristics of places, using a wide range of locations. I can also explain and predict change Space I know where some places are located I can describe where places and landscapes are located I describe in detail and with confidence where are certain places and landscapes I have a very good depth of knowledge of where places and landscapes are located I have exceptional knowledge of where the places and landscapes are located Physical and Human processes I can describe in detail the human and physical features of places I can describe and compare the physical and human features of places and name their affects on the population I can describe physical & human processes that can change the population in a place I can describe and explain in detail the physical and human processes that change the population of a place I can describe, explain and analyse the physical and human processes that change population and give suggestions of how problems could arise and be solved.
