The intrinsic replication kinetics of HCV and the intrinsic inhibitory properties of the HCV proteins can provide HCV with an initial survival advantage over the immune system. These early mechanisms can set in motion a series of sequential events that together provide HCV with a high likelihood to evade immune surveillance and to persist.
