3 The Beginning Highlight your HOOK in YELLOW.
Is your hook engaging? Does it make the reader want to continue reading more? What type of hook did you use? Underline where you reveal parts of the incident. How did you get to your incident? Are there any questions that the reader might have? How clear is the incident to the reader? Is the background information helpful?

4 The Middle Highlight in PINK your SENSORY DETAILS and/or FIGURATIVE LANGUAGE Are you painting a picture in the reader’s mind? Do you tell the reader what happened or do you show? Does the reader see the image that you see when you think of this event? Underline parts where the reader sees what you are feeling or thinking. Are you a character in the story? Does the reader connect with you in the story?

5 The End Highlight in GREEN your REFLECTION
What was the IMMEDIATE REACTION to your incident and response? What LESSON do you take away from the incident? Underline the synthesis (examination) of your choices and consequences. Does the ending make sense? Are there any unanswered questions? How do you apply the lessons learned?

6 Score your paper Read through your narrative Read the Rubric
From the rubric activity and your reading, what score would YOU give your paper? Share with a partner on how you came to the score you came up with

7 Ask yourself…. Am I telling my reader a STORY? OR
Am I just telling my reader something that happened?

8 It needs to be a STORY! If you simply told the reader what happened without any more details… you missed the basket

9 Time to Ponder…. Answer these questions:
Why do you think you got the grade that you received? Be specific and use examples from your paper. How has going over the Rubric and the Scoring guide help prepare you for future assignments? What was most helpful about the workshop? Least beneficial? List three ways that you can improve your writing and explain how they will help you. What are some questions that still have? Time to Ponder….
