Coexistence of WPAN and WLAN was mandated by the 802 Executive Committee.
It is likely that WPAN and WLAN devices will operate in the same ISM band.
WPAN devices are likely to operate in locations where WLANs are installed.

It is important that two devices that conform to the standard interoperate with one another at the Physical Layer.
It may also be desirable to have WPAN and WLAN devices interoperate at some higher layer.

Proposal
We propose the formation of a Coexistence and Interoperability Study Group.
The Study Group would write a Project Authorization Request (PAR) defining the objectives and scope of the Coexistence and Interoperability Task Group.
The Study Group would exist from July 1999 to November 1999.

Potential deliverables of the Task Group
A series of reports describing the impact of a WPAN on a WLAN in the same vicinity, and visa versa.
A set of recommended practices for both the WPAN and WLAN to maximize coexistence
Possibly, some recommended modifications or extensions to the WPAN and/or WLAN standards to improve coexistence.
