3 For each value, write down the expected norms.
e.g Value: To feel respected. Norms: To avoid laughing at each other To listen when someone is talking To only use rights respecting language

4 Conflict Approach to Social Order
Consensus Approach to Social Order (Functionalist) Social order and stability depend on co-operation between individuals working towards the same shared norms and values. Social order is maintained over time due to adequate socialization and because people support and agree to abide by the rules. How do these these approaches to social order apply to our shared norms and values? Conflict Approach to Social Order (Marxist) There is a conflict of interests between the bourgeoisie and the proletariat. Social order is maintained because the bourgeoisie has the power to enforce order.

5 Sanctions Come up with your own ideas for two positive sanctions and two negative sanctions.

6 Getting to Know You! Learning Objectives: 1) To analyse whether our individual values are closer aligned with Functionalist, Marxist or New Right sociological theories. Q1) Summarise the difference between Functionalist and Marxist theories. Ex: Give an example to demonstrate each theory.

7 What do I believe? Read the statements outlining my beliefs and values. Discuss whether you agree or disagree with each statement. Analyse whether each statement closer aligns with Functionalist, Marxist or New Right sociological theory. Be prepared to feedback to the class in 15 minutes.
