3 What is the project about?
Supporting schools serving disadvantaged communities to use greenspace for outdoor learning Target: 100 schools by 2020 Sustainable intervention to help take away barriers to OL Collaborative, co-ordinated effort Leaving a positive legacy beyond 2020

4 Where has the project come from?
2020 Challenge for Scotland’s Biodiversity Route Map to 2020 Six big steps for nature Big Step 3: Quality greenspace for health and education benefits Priority Project 6: Taking Learning Outdoors

5 Who will deliver the project?
So much is happening already! A collaboration between organisations and networks already engaged in OL Working together as a co- ordinated team

6 How is the project being developed?
2015/16 Scoping exercise Pilot study: W Dunbartonshire Partner engagement Project planning & logistics 2016/17 Local engagement 2017/18 Delivery Year 1 2018/19 Delivery Year 2 2019/20 Delivery Year 3 Reporting & Legacy

Iterative on-going process Means to test thinking and assess feasibility Means to develop an approach to take to partners Part of the project delivery

10 Step 2 Identify contacts Step 3 Speak to education contact
Phase 1 – Background preparation Step 1 Familiarisation Step 2 Identify contacts Step 3 Speak to education contact Step 4 Gather intelligence Step 5 Speak to greenspace contact Step 6 Identify target schools Phase 2 – Engaging the target schools Step 7 Contact school Step 8 Meet school Phase 3 – Assessing the resource Step 9 Ground truth sites Step 10 Site evaluation Phase 4 – Taking action Step 11 Write action plan Step 12 Advice and support Phase 5 – Monitoring use of the site and evaluation Step 13 Monitor and review progress Step 14 Evaluate

11 Some key things we have learnt (so far!)
Data is not perfect. School estates are changing Some schools were apparently missing from our list. Finding the right people to talk to. Gathering intelligence is time consuming but only way to target the right schools.

12

13 Re-run of GIS analysis from 551 to 693 10 LA = 75% of schools

14 Partner engagement Collaborative project Workshop for partners
Follow-up meetings with partners to assess Level of interest Compatible work currently underway (who, what, where) Type of involvement Views on logistics _ Awareness raising

15 Project planning and logistics
In parallel with partner engagement meetings develop: National delivery plan Governance structure Terms of reference Measures of success and reporting

16 What are the next steps? By end of Dec:
Send partners drafts of national delivery plan, governance structure, terms of reference measures of success and reporting Seek indication of commitment By end of March: Finalised project plan documents and set targets Have stakeholders on board
