1 Supporting reading at South Nottinghamshire Academy
The Trust priority: Year 7 students to achieve a reading age of 9 years and 6 months by the end of the Autumn term. 91% of Y7 students achieved this.

2 DEAR and AR ‘At the start of the year I didn’t used to read at all. I had all of the ‘Diary of a Wimpy Kid’ books on my shelf and had never read one of them. Reading is alright, I do it all of the time now in DEAR and I read at home.’ ‘My reading has really improved, I have read whole books’

3 ‘I really like DEAR. My reading was good but I always thought it could be better. My reading age has gone up now and I enjoy reading. I have noticed this year I can pick up more books and enjoy them.’

4 Year Seven improvement in reading ages
An improvement of 1 year or more. 45% An improvement of 2 years or more. 21% An improvement of 3 years or more. 10% An improvement of 4 years or more. 4% Biggest gain: 6 years 6 months.

5 Developing reading through AR.
Quizzing at school and at home. Discussions on reports on the quizzes. Reading 3x a week. Rewards: word count and number of tests. Reading out loud. Intervention.

6 What are we doing to support reading further?
Literacy evening. Reading Leaders. Pairs read together twice a week. Reading festival. Half termly competitions.

7 Students who have not made expected progress with their reading ages will complete a reading project over the summer holiday.
