5. Project Background - Inspiration
Wanted to create an affordable, easy-to-use security camera system using the Kinect
Kinect is widely available, thanks to the success of the Xbox 360
This project intends to solve the problem of high-cost security hardware being another hurdle for young adults wanting a secure home in the ever-rising economy and housing market.

6. Project Background - Result
The final project delivered a security camera that is able to detect when a person enters the field of view, check the system time, then determine which camera to enable (based on that time).
If it is day, colour stream is activated
If night, infrared stream is activated

8. Plans for Future Expansion
If given more time to work on this project, some features we would like to add include:
audio recording
facial structure recognition (comparison to known user database)
intrusion notifications (either directly to the user’s phone, to an administrator, or even directly to the authorities)
linking the Kinect unit to a user account by having the user input the Kinect’s serial number when they register

9. Recommendations
Microsoft code samples help to understand how the Kinect processes things.
The semester goes much faster than anticipated.
Communication between teammates becomes extremely important.
It is easy to overextend with a scope.
Security may take a backseat when you are pressed for time.

10. Conclusion We began the project with an overambitious scope.
Without understanding the language, we adapted.
We learned many professional skills for the industry.
We  created a way for users to turn existing hardware into a security system.
