Types of Sets

Box Set The most common type of interior set
Consists of 2 or 3 walls and sometimes covered by a ceiling Walls are made with flats Can be painted over and re-used for other productions

Unit Set Made up of several scenic units that can be moved to create several settings Practical when wanting to present multi- set shows Used when presenting an evening of one- act plays

Permanent Set Rarely changes throughout the production
May be one big acting area, or several smaller areas Controlled lights help determine the location and setting Think about Noises Off

Screen Set Two-fold or three- fold flats that form walls
Space is left to portray openings and door Allows for quick scene changes

Profile Set Similar to screen set, but it covers the entire perimeter of the set Often times prisms are used to help with quick scene changes Prisms are three flats put together to form a triangle

Curtain Set Uses curtains as a backdrop for the play
Used when there is a limited budget Acting area is always the same size
