2 Why are graphs important?
Graphs are beneficial because they summarize and display information in a way that is easy for most people to understand.

3 Why is Graphing So Important in your Life Anyway?
A good graph will: 1. Show clear facts and be visually accurate. 2. Grab attention and show data clearly. 3. Be simple. 4. Present data in a quickly, lift out the most important facts and be easily remembered.

4 Strategies for reading Tables, Charts, and Graphs
Read the TITLE. Ask yourself “What type of data is in the table/chart/graph?” Read the HEADINGS. a. Across the bottom (x-axis) Down the sides(y-axis) Read across the ROWS. Answer the QUESTIONS.

A table is a way of showing facts. It makes facts or data easy and fun to read.

10 Table What is the table measuring?
Which temperature has the least amount of sales? What happens to the amount of sales as the temperature increases? How much total sales were made? How much did the sales increase by when the temperature went from 84 degrees to 85 degrees?

11 Line Graph 1. On what day of the week do people eat the most potatoes? 2. What day of the week do they eat the least amount of potatoes? 3. How many more kilograms of potatoes do people eat on Saturday then on Thursday?

12 Bar Graph What is this graph measuring?
What is the students’ most/ least favorite after school activity? How many students play sports? How many more students like to earn money than participate in school clubs?

13 Now it’s time to practice reading graphs and answering questions about them on your own.
