This is a stand alone degree, giving you the opportunity to develop an interest outside, although in many ways relevant to, medicine. The programme follows as closely as possible the final year of the BSc Sport & Exercise Science programmes offered by the Faculty. Duration 1 year. What is Sports Science in Relation to Medicine?

Centre for Sport and Exercise Science FACULTY OF BIOLOGICAL SCIENCES The 4 Disciplines of Sport and Exercise Science Biomechanics the study of the mechanics (forces and motions) of human movement – performance, technique and injury. Exercise Physiology how the body functions during exercise and how it responds to long term exercise training. – metabolism, respiration, body composition; muscle function. Motor Control the processes that underlie movement control, skill acquisition and retention. Sports Psychology the thoughts, feelings and emotions of individuals and how these influence human behaviour in sport and exercise.

Centre for Sport and Exercise Science FACULTY OF BIOLOGICAL SCIENCES SPSC3061 Research project (40credits) SPSC3301 Interdisciplinary Issues in Sport and Exercise (20 credits) SPSC3321 Advanced exercise physiology (10 credits) SPSC3328 Sport Medicine, Health and Nutrition (10 credits) A maximum of 20 credits of the following modules (these are level 2 modules): SPSC2314 Social Processes in Sport (20 credits) Or SPSC2114 Social Processes in Sport 1 (10 credits) SPSC2304 Biomechanics of Sport & Exercise (20 credits) Or SPSC2213 Biomechanics of Sport & Exercise 1 (10 credits) SPSC2308 Motor Control (20 credits) Or SPSC 2031 Motor Control 1 (10 credits) Up to 40 credits from the following (all 10 credits, level 3 modules) SPSC 3315 Movement analysis SPSC 3316 Mechanics of Sports Performance SPSC 3032 Motor control: Research Issues SPSC 3318 Exercise and psychological health SPSC 3326 Exercise prescription The degree programme consists of 120 credits from the following: Compulsory modules (totalling 80 credits): Optional modules (totalling 40 credits):
