By redesigning the entire process of assignment of rotations and with the support of ICT, it is possible to improve the quality of healthcare services delivered by proposing a novel solution in managing the rotation of the nurses.
Description:
In the next decade, increased use of "Lean" principles and practices in hospitals can create real value by reducing waste and improving productivity, costs, quality, and the timely delivery of patient care services. In 2010, the Institute of Medicine recommended that nurses lead collaborative quality improvement efforts and assume a major role in redesigning health care. One of the bottle’s neck highlighted in several studies is the management of the health professionals and their rotations through the weeks, months and years. Furthermore, stressed shifts, such as night shifts or weekend shifts, are difficult to be accepted.
