2. What is Title I?
Title I is a federal program that provides funding to local school districts to improve academic achievement. The amount of money each school receives is based on the number of students who receive free/reduced lunch. Penn Manor uses that funding to improve reading achievement in grades K – 8.

3. How was my child selected for intervention?
All elementary students in Penn Manor are assessed on their reading skills three times per year: Fall, January, and Spring. A variety of measures are used to determine how each student is achieving in those reading skills, depending on the grade level. The main assessments that we use are:
DIBELS – Dynamic Indicators of Basic Early Literacy Skills - Grades K – 6
DRA – Developmental Reading Inventory – Grades K – 2
PSSA scores from the previous year - Grades 4 - 6

4. Predetermined criteria is used in the selection of students at the Fall and January testing times. Students with the greatest need are selected for reading support through Title I.
Those assessments are also used to monitor the progress of all students, not just the Title I students.
Title I parents are notified each marking period with a progress report on how their child is progressing.

5. Who will be teaching my child?
Hambright Elementary has two Reading Specialists, Mrs. Rowley and Mrs. Kreider, who teach groups of children and oversee the progress of all Title I students. We are also fortunate to have highly qualified and highly trained aides who also teach our students.

7. Parent Literacy Nights
Title I funds help to pay for us to hold parent literacy nights. These events give parents an opportunity to learn about fun and and helpful activities that they can do to help their child.
