2 The Theatre of War -Focused in Central and Eastern Europe
-Longer than the Western Front -The battles were in between the Triple alliance members and always featured Russia -Commenced in Summer of 1914 ended 1918 -Sometimes called “Second Fatherland War” by Russians -First Action on Eastern Front was the Battle of Stalluponen (modern day Lithuania) -mainly eastern europe

In WW1 was the Largest Army with numbers 1,400,000 soldiers Rises up to 5 million Known for being huge and ill-equipped Weaponry on par with Germans Average Russian soldier carried side arms, rifle, machine gun Some technology used up until the 1980’s Russian Army was Concentrated on Eastern Front during early WW1 Poor transportation contributed to their demise

4 The Battle of Tannenberg, 1914
Known as perhaps the most dominant German Victory of WW1 Essentially finished Russia’s Invasion of East Prussia (before it began) Of the 150,000 Russian soldiers only 10,000 escaped (30,000 killed, 95,000 captured) Russian General Samsonov could not face embarrassment of reporting to his Tsar, committed suicide
