Warm Up 11/3 We are going to be creating flashcards for the 8 dynasties. You need either 8 note cards OR 2 pieces of paper each cut into 4 pieces (total of 8)

Logistics Today we are going to talk about 2 ideologies that brought China together. Tomorrow we’ll talk about the Tang Dynasty and Sinicization. On Wednesday and Thursday, we’ll talk about the Song Dynasty and its economic boom. On Friday the Mongol Conquests. On Monday, we have our China Quiz

Legalism vs Confucianism
Two ethical systems dominate the politics of the Chinese Empires. Legalism was only the official Chinese policy during the Qin and early Han dynasties but continued to be important throughout the Imperial Period. Confucianism was embraced during the Han dynasty and became the cornerstone of Chinese society until the Communist Revolution over 2000 years later.

Both systems can be compared by asking the following questions. What is human nature? Can a person become good? What are the traits of a good person? What should the government do to encourage people to be good?
