Efficient and effective information use : from searching to using
Question What do you need to know? Source Where will you look? Find What words will you use? Evaluate Is the information ‘good’? Combine Have you learned anything new? Share How will you share it? Apply How will you use it? This is our process model. It was designed to make each of the steps clear and to act as a memory prompt and a learning tool to help all of us develop what are called our information literacy skills. These skills become stronger with continued practice and information search, recovery and use becomes faster and easier the more skilful we become. The services to be discussed today are an alternative but personalised source of information to combine, share and use, apply. Highlight each step and examples (refer to notes, e.g. highlight Search and filters to different types of content) A lot know already and do, useful to highlight steps and pass skills on to colleagues, networks IL portal, includes modules to support this (e.g. clinical staff appraise evidence) – link slide, info. overload KUTD services useful tool to manage info.
