2. History
The city of Riga was founded in Latvia in 1201 by Bishop Albert.
In 1202 Riga was the main center for the Order of Livonian Brothers of the Sword.
Since 1282, Riga was a member of the Hanseatic League and was a famous trading city.

3. Riga’s flag The flag of Riga is a square with two horizontal bands.
The upper band is light blue and the lower one is white. In the middle of the flag is a large, coloured coat of arms .

4. Latvian Parliament – the Saeima
There are 100 members in the Latvian Saeima.
The elections for the Saeima are scheduled to be held once every four years, normally on the first Saturday of October.
The first election was held in 1922.

6. The Freedom Monument
The Freedom Monument , with a height of 42 m is a bronze female figure named Milda.She holds in her raised hands three stars, representing three cultural and historical parts of Latvia: Kurzeme, Vidzeme and Latgale.
The monument was built in and its author was a well-known latvian architect Karlis Zale.
