1 ICT in Sport What: To consider the impact ICT has had on sport
To consider the uses and benefits ICT can bring To consider some of the practical applications that have been made of ICT

2 Data recording & storage:
Computers mean vast amounts of data can be stored, analysed and presented in various ways. This is used at all levels and allows pupils, school PE depts and professional sports to make use of this facility. More programmes are continually being developed to enhance its use.

4 Performance analysis:
Software and hardware is constantly being developed to enable sophisticated levels of recording and performance analysis. These systems are available in many schools. Examples include Kandle and Dartfish. These use video recording and playback to enable features such as deja-vu and motion analysis. These enable the performer to track and view their own performance to gain feedback and even be shown with an exemplar.

5

6 Professional football clubs use ‘Prozone’.
This can analyse a whole game, individual players, sectional analysis (defense, attack etc) and physical analysis (distance run, passes made etc).

7 On a more basic level, digital cameras and video cameras can be used to record and playback performance. Being able to slow down, rewind, fast forward action adds to the value of analysis. Performers can see what they have done and consider ways to improve. Digital imagery can be saved and reviewed at a later date.

8 Performance aids: Fitness monitoring Devices can monitor heart rate, blood pressure, training zones and give a performer constant readouts and even advice.

9 Hawk eye This is being used in tennis and cricket. It helps make decisions by tracking the flight and trajectory of the ball.

10

11 Video officials Used in sport to check incidents and support decisions with wireless transmission links to officials from their reviewing booths.

12 What recent developments of ICT have been introduced into sport?
Examiners Tip: Questions are often asked about how ICT helps planning and improvement in sport. Therefore you need to be aware of recent developments.
