October 10th , 2014

2 Warm Up: Vocabulary Preview
Date:_Monday, October 13th, 2014 Prompt: Use 2 songs’ worth of time to copy down the vocabulary words from Lesson 6.

3 Today’s Agenda Learning Target: Today I will learn how to research and present a topic to teach my classmates. Grammar is… Anatomy of a Successful Lesson Grammar Project Introduction and Overview

4 Grammar Is… In each of your table groups, you will have a choice of doing one of the following: Create an analogy: You will create 5 analogies such as the one below: Grammar is to _________________ as _______________ is to _____________. (You can also include similes and metaphors.) Grammar Brainstorm: You will brainstorm why grammar is useful. Grammar Pitfalls: You will brainstorm the problems with grammar.  The students will be encouraged to think about ELL and immigrant populations. My Grammar Experience: You will share their experiences with grammar, whether positive or negative, and explain why. Situational Grammar:  You will brainstorm the ways in which the rules of grammar change based upon the situation.

5 Anatomy of a Lesson The bravest ones of you will have the opportunity to role play some examples of engaging and not-so-engaging lessons. Let the fun begin!

6 Grammar Project Overview
Project requirements: You must research your concept thoroughly. You must create a lesson presentation to teach this concept to the class. It must be engaging and informative. You must also provide some sort of graphic organizer or notes for the class. Can be printed or in an online format. Any PowerPoints, Prezis, PowToons, etc. must have your first name, and class period so that they can be posted online with no threat to your privacy.

7 Grammar Project Overview
You will be broken up into 6 groups of up to 5 students (for the sake of differentiation, you will be permitted to work alone, however you must also present alone).  Within each group, you will create a short mini-lesson on your given topic to teach the concept to the class. You will either explore: Compound Sentences Complex Sentences Simple Sentences Compound-Complex Sentences Transition Words Run-on sentences Basic Capitalization Rules Today, each group must clearly delineate what aspect of the project each member will do.  You must also identify on which day they would like to present: Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday.

8 Homework Read for 30 minutes. Study vocabulary for lesson 6.
Work on Grammar Project.

9 Closing I Hope: What do you hope to see from your classmates’ presentations? Let’s popcorn out those ideas!
