1 Adding and Subtracting Fractions
With different denominators

2 Adding Fractions with Different Denominators

3 It’s Easier Than You Think

4 It’s Easy Adding or subtract fractions with the same denominator you just add the numerator For Example

5 Remember Equivalent Fractions
Have the same value even though they may look different 1 = = 4

6 Least Common Denominator
Unlike Fractions have to be converted to equivalent fractions Find all the multiples for the numerator and denominator

7 Use these tools to review LCD

8 Different Denominators
Sometimes you have fractions with different denominators that you may want to add or subtract. But you need to make the denominators the same before you can do that . Example: What is

9 To make the Denominators the same
You can multiply the numerator and denominator by the same factor to make equivalent fractions. If you multiply 8 × 3 you get 24, and if you multiply 12 × 2 you also get 24. (important: what you do to the bottom of the fraction, you must also do to the top):

10 Multiplying to get the same denominator
3 X 3 = 9 8 X 5 X 2 = 10 12 X
