Oberhausen Then and Now
In the past, Oberhausen mainly relied on the development of the mining industry and the processing of iron and steel. Nowadays, Oberhausen is a modern city with skyscrapers and office buildings. Moreover, the city has many green spaces and parks. There is also the CentrO, a large and well-known shopping centre with many tourist attractions.

Oberhausen Gasometer The Oberhausen Gasometer was built from 1927 to 1929 as a disc-type gas tank. With a storage capacity of 347,000 cubic metres, a height of 117 meters high and a diameter of nearly 68 feet, it was the largest gas holder in Europe. Nowadays, the Gasometer is used as an exhibition hall. From the roof of the gasholder you can almost see the entire Ruhr area.
