Metaphysical Poetry Metaphysical poetry refers to a genre of poetry that was popular in England and across Europe during the seventeenth century. Metaphysical poetry is highly intellectualized, use abstract imagery and paradoxes, and contain highly complex thought. Most metaphysical poetry concentrate on larger subjects such as life, love, and reality.
