1 6th Grade Unit 4 Spread of Culture and Religion Formative Performance Task 1 SUBSTITUTION Why is religion important to people around the world and to what extent are the major world religions similar? Description of Formative Performance Task: You will view and study a Prezi on world religions. Steps: One person in your group should log into to the laptop. Click on the desktop link called “World Religions Prezi”. View the Prezi in your group. Discuss and answer the questions below together: What are some similarities between Buddhism and Hinduism? What are some similarities between Judaism, Christianity, and Islam? Be ready to share your answers in a whole group discussion. Assessment: formative assessment will take place throughout small group and whole class discussion

Description of Formative Performance Task: You will review and answer an Edpuzzle on world religions. Featured Source: World Religions Edpuzzle Featured Tech Tools: Computer or iPad with internet access Steps: One person in your group should login to the laptop. Click on the Edpuzzle link on your desktop. Click “Login” found on the top right of the webpage. Click student. Login using your given username and password. Click on the “start video” tab. Watch the video and answer the questions as they come up. Be sure to press submit when you finish answering each question. Load the video with questions and have already created student accounts. Assessment: Formative assessment through the questions embedded within in the video.

3 6th Grade Unit 4 Spread of Culture and Religion Formative Performance Task 3 MODIFICATION Why is religion important to people around the world and to what extent are the major world religions similar? Description of Summative Performance Task: You will read and study Sources 1 through 3 provided in Padlet. Use the information to answer the questions. Steps: Go to the Padlet website on a desktop or laptop. Begin by reading the writing prompt in the Task column to the right. This is the question that will guide you through each of the Sources. Keep in mind, each person will be responsible for his/her own written response to the prompt! With a partner, begin with Source 1 and read, view, or listen to the primary sources given. Continue in order through all threes sources. On a separate sheet of loose-leaf, take notes on the information provided in the sources that will help you answer the writing prompt. After reviewing the primary sources in each column, click on the + sign and respond to the given prompt for each source. *Remember to put you and your partner’s nickname at the beginning of each response. 5. Task: Read the writing prompt once again. On the separate paper that I have given you, write a complete response to the question. Use the provided rubric to guide your writing. 4 6th Grade Unit 4 Spread of Culture and Religion Formative Performance Task 4 REDEFINITION Why is religion important to people around the world and to what extent are the major world religions similar? Description of Summative Performance Task: You will use Clips to create a short video that will answer the task question. Steps: You will collaborate on this task with your group of four. Having already viewed the Prezi, viewed the video in Edpuzzle, and completed the Padlet, each person in the group should already have a completed, written response to the task question. Once you are ready to create, open the Clips app and tap the down arrow button at the top left of the screen, and select New Video. For the first slide, select the T icon at the top left, and create a title that includes the topic of the question. Now, use your voice to record your question. To insert a photo, select photo and take a picture of the item that you want to insert OR upload from the iPad’s camera. To insert a video, select video and record yourself or have a partner record you while you are speaking. When complete, select the Share icon at the bottom right and select Save Video. To post the video, login to Mrs.Snider’s Blackboard. Click on discussion board. Topic: World Religions and click on “Add New Thread” In the subject box, put the title of your video. Click on the “attach file” icon. Browse to find your video in the camera roll of the iPad. Click Submit. Evaluate a peer’s video and provide a counter-argument.
