Operation Torch 2009 September 8 – 21 © Screaming Eagles of WWII Foundation Day 3 & 4 Bastogne

2 Friday 11th of September – a long bus ride from Normandy, France to Bastogne, Belgium
But finally, BASTOGNE!

5 But we were more interested in the new decoration in Le Nut’s restaurant and the famous steak dinner!

6 Next morning, a visit to the Mardasson monument
And admiration for the special monument to the 101st Airborne Division at it’s entrance.

7 This monument was dedicated in 2008 and was initiated by the inhabitants of Bastogne as a special tribute to the Screaming Eagles

The Mardasson monument is enormous. A true tribute to the Battle of the Bulge.

12 Quickly, back to Bastogne where we are received by the city of Bastogne

13 Mr Cremer, Bastogne councilman, welcomed us.
Roby translated Mr Cremer’s words. And Reg held a beautiful speech.

14 Mr Cremer issued the first commemmorative coins - 65th anniversary of the liberation - to WWII veterans Paul Jackson (501) and Robert Lundy (506)

15 To Anita Frey, widow of Louis Frey (501)

16 To Susan, daughter of “Burr” Smith (506)

17 Honorary CSM of the 327 Infantry Regiment the “Bastogne Bulldogs”, Joseph M. Bossi, accepts the coin on behalf of the regiment.

18 But we had gifts for Mr Cremer too…
Petra Wenstedt-Pulles hands the special commemmorative coin from the city of Eindhoven (65 years of liberation). CSM (Ret) Bossi hands Mr Cremer a 327 challenge coin.

19 After lunch: Noville, Rachamps, and Bois Jacques

20 And the monument in Foy at the location of the temporary US cemetary

22 The controversial “E Co”-monument and Halte station, a point of recognition for Mr Jackson
A true Geronimo!!!

23 After a day like this, dinner in Bistro Leo was very welcome…
