A Verb is a word that represents an action or state of being. A verb is the essential part of the Predicate of a sentence EX: Go, Strike, Travel, and Exist.

The simple or dictionary form of a Verb. Examples: To Fly. To Agree. To Eat. To Jump To Return. Often the word to marks as an infinitive.

A helping Verb that modifies the main verb. Ex: Ian can win. Ex: Ian did win. Ex: Ian could have won. A question often begins with a Auxiliary Verb.

A Verb that needs a Direct Object to complete its meaning. Ex: Christian read the newspaper Ex: Christian earned a speeding ticket. Ex: Christian eats lima beans drenched in brown gravy. Some verbs can be transitive in one sentence and intransitive in another.

A verb that does not need a Direct Object to complete its meaning. Examples: Run, Sleep, Travel, Wonder, and Die. Most often, intransitive verbs are followed by an adverb or end a sentence.

The Verb form that combines with an Auxiliary Verb to indicate certain tenses. Ex: The girl is swimming. (Present Tense) Ex: I am thinking. (Present Tense) Ex: The Gas station has closed. (Past Tense) Ex: The mayor had spoken. (Past Tense) Participles may also function as a Adjective.

A word that conveys action. Ex: Sport experts write about the basketball player, LeBron James. Ex: Antoine tackled the couch. Ex: Ian and Christian argued over who would get the last slice of Pizza.

A Verb in which the past tense is formed by adding –ed ending. Ex: Walk ( past tense walked), Shout ( past tense shouted), Laugh ( past tense laughed), Dance ( past tense danced).

A Verb in which the past tense is NOT formed by adding the –ed ending. Ex: Sing ( past tense sang), Feel ( past tense felt), Go ( past tense went), Run ( past tense ran), Swim ( past tense swam).
