Why Apply? Holding leadership roles and participating in service projects creates a sense of pride and helps build self esteem Develops good habits for students hoping to be invited to join the National Honor Society as juniors in high school Great addition to list on job and private school applications
5
Application Form A minimum of one service and one leadership activity which have been performed during the year prior to application. Three staff recommendations (may include assistant principal)- comment and signature of three staff members who can vouch for applicant’s character. These will be separate sheets and will be given directly to the advisor, never to be viewed by the applicant.
6
Service The key to service is to volunteer (unpaid)
Stock shelves at the food pantry Call a nursing home to see if someone would like to be read to, have their nails painted, or play a game of cards Take part in a walk to raise money for a worthy cause Contact an animal shelter, your place of worship, Council on Aging or the community building to see what needs to be done
7
Leadership Take charge of either a group or an activity
Gather a group of your friends and conduct a beach, school grounds or playground clean up (you get leadership experience, they get service) Start a neighborhood drive to help out the food pantry or an animal shelter (animal shelters are always looking for used towels and blankets) Become a LIT at a day camp (Leader in Training) Check with a local daycare to see if they would like a group reader or game leader

Retaining Membership Academics will be checked at the end of each term. If the criteria are not met, a written warning will be issued. Only one warning will be issued. Future failure to meet the criteria will result in dismissal. Two leadership or service activities (any combination) must be recorded each term, for a total of eight (minimum of four each) before the end of the year. As above, only one warning will be issued and future failure to meet the criteria will result in dismissal.

A member who has been dismissed may appeal the decision of the faculty council and is entitled to a hearing under the same rules for disciplinary appeals in Bourne Middle School.
