3 Long Backboard Rescue If four or more firefighters are present, one FF can support the victim’s head and neck, while the second and third FF’s move the victim by lifting under the arms. The victim can be moved in line with the long axis of the body, with the head and neck stabilized in the neutral position.

1. The first fire fighter provides in-line manual support of the victim’s head and cervical spine. 2. The second fire fighter gives commands and applies a cervical collar.

3. The third fire fighter frees the victim’s legs and moves the legs together without moving the pelvis or spine. 4. Two fire fighters rotate the victim as a unit. The first fire fighter supports the victim’s head and neck.

5. The first fire fighter places the backboard on the seat. The other fire fighters lower the victim. 6. The second and third fire fighters slide the victim until the victim’s hips rest on the backboard.

7. Working together, they continue to slide the victim until the victim is fully on the backboard. 8. One fire fighter continues to stabilize the victim’s head and neck while the others carry the victim.
