2 An adaptation is a variation of structure, or behavior that aids the organism’s survival in its particular environment.

3 Physical adaptations help an animal survive in its environment.
are body structures that allow an animal to find and consume food, defend itself, and to reproduce its species. Hey! I’m a walking stick. I look just like a stick you’d find on the ground. Physical adaptations help an animal survive in its environment.

4 Camouflage (use of color in a surrounding) to blend in to the environment.
The chameleon can change its color to match its surroundings. Can you do that?

Monarch Mimicry (looking or sounding like another living organism) The Viceroy butterfly uses mimicry to look like the Monarch butterfly. Can you tell them apart? Poisonous Not Poisonous I’m the Monarch! I’m the Viceroy!

6 Snake Teeth: Which snake is poisonous? How might the type of teeth be an adaptation? Poisonous

7 Whale Teeth: Which whale is a vegetarian? How might the type of teeth be an adaptation? vegetarian

8 The location and size of an animals eyes aid in its survival.
Do all animals have their eyes in the same place? How does the location of the eyes in a horse aid in survival?

9 Why are an alligator’s eyes on top of its head?

10 Which animal is a predator?
Which animal is prey? How does the placement of their eyes aid in their survival?

11 Talk with your neighbor and discuss the different functions to the two type of feet in the picture. How does this aid the animal in survival?
