Learning Best Practices
So how did we get there? Using Title I and operating funding we contracted experts from outside to focus on learning best instructional practices. Teachers attended conferences, conducted book studies and lesson studies,. We shared national presenters with other school ie Kristen Ziemke and Stephanie Harvey. Teachers were held accountable for implementing the practices.

Created Models Primary/Intermediate Initially…how to present a classroom library…inviting Barnes/Noble…Label books to make access easy for readers….samples of word walls, interactive bulletin boards…furniture arrangement…resources

Learning Walks “Effective teachers organize their classrooms so that all students can learn. They maximize instructional time and foster respectful interactions with and among students, ensuring that students find the classroom a safe place to take intellectual risks…work in ways that demonstrate their belief that hard work will result in higher levels of learning.” We provided the PD and the expectations…now it was time to see it in practice. In your packet is an article we used to establish and organize our learning walks. Initially, the learning walks were focused on classroom environment. In you folder are the Hawthorne Classroom expectations. After the PD- the expectations were distributed and we give feedback to our teachers on them as needed.
