3 Economic Growth Postwar economic boom because of oil and gas found in western provinces Canada encourages immigration because they are only a 10th of the size of the US (2011 census 33,476,688) Side note – Government has a parliament, upper house (senate) lower house (house of commons), and Queen Elizabeth II is the head of the state

4 Quebec Separatism Quebec is French speaking
They wanted autonomy aka self rule Some people wanted separatism – separate from the rest of Canada and become an independent nation

5 US Influence Canada and the US are close, but some don’t like our cultural domination There is economic competition NAFTA (North American Free Trade Association) Free trade between…??? Other issues include chemical pollution from American smokestacks that contributed to Acid Rain in northeastern Canada They agreed on a solution – what it was I’m not sure
