In 1894, a man called Into Inha travelled into Karelia. He wanted to find out more about the Karelians’ folk music and stories. When he came back, he wrote a travelogue, which boosted knowledge of the region. Because Karelian stories and songs were the basis of a famous poem, the Kalevala, many Finnish people decided to return to their roots after reading Inha’s travelogue.
