2. * Scotland is one of four countries that make up the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. * The other countries are England, Wales and Northern Ireland. Edinburgh is the capital city of Scotland yet, Glasgow is the largest city. * Scotland covers about a third of the island of Great Britain

3. Most of Scotland is mountainous with a rugged landscape, green valleys and deep blue lakes also known as Lochs. The Highlands of Scotland are largely mountainous, and form the highest ground in the U.K. And make up 60% of northwest Scotland. Famous highlands are the Great Glen, Grampians, Northwest Highlands and not for getting the highest peak in Great Britain, Ben Nevis.

4. The Lowlands are made up of rolling farmland and high moorland that spans the Central Belt and Eastern Scotland. The oldest rocks of Scotland are known as the Lewisian gneisses formed 3,000 Ma in what was known as the Precambrian period. They are among some of the oldest rocks in the world. And during this time Scotland would have been close to the south pole, unlike today whereby Scotland is closer to the north pole.

5. * The population of Scotland is 5.1 million and is highly urbanised. * Most Scottish farmers own their own land and animals such as sheep, goats etc. * Scotland's flag is called St.Andrews cross. The flag has never officially adopted, but the Scottish people have flown it for hundreds of years

6. * Golf in Scotland is a famous, well played and respected game and The Royal and Ancient Golf Club is one of the most famous golf courses lies on the outskirts of St.Andrews * Sport plays a central role in Scottish culture, * It enjoys independent represention at many international sporting event. Including: the FIFA World Cup, The rugby union, the rugby world cup, the rugby league world cup and the cricket world cup.

7. * The Culture of Scotland refers to the patterns of human activity and Symbolism and associated with Scotland and Scottish People. * Some elements of Scottish Culture such as its separate national church are protected in law as agreed in the treaty of union
