Pilgrims: Fact or Fiction
It’s Time To Play……… Pilgrims: Fact or Fiction
3
Fact or Fiction? The first Thanksgiving was in 1621 and the Pilgrims celebrated it every year thereafter.
4
Answer: Fiction The first feast was not repeated. In fact, the colonists didn't even call the day Thanksgiving. To them, a thanksgiving was a religious holiday in which they would go to church and thank God for a specific event, such as the winning of a battle. On such a religious day, the types of recreational activities that the pilgrims and Wampanoag Indians participated in during the 1621 harvest feast-- dancing, singing secular songs, playing games— would not have been allowed. The feast was a secular celebration, so it never would have been considered a thanksgiving in the pilgrims minds

Answer: Fact Fact: In 1609, the Pilgrims left England due to religious persecution. Between and 1619, they lived in Holland. Eventually the group decided to leave because they felt that their children were becoming more Dutch than English. It was in 1619 that the Pilgrims departed for America on the Mayflower

Answer: Fiction Nobody knows if the Pilgrims ate turkey on the first Thanksgiving. Thanksgiving did not become a national holiday until 1863, so many of the traditional Thanksgiving dishes were popular dishes of the 1800s, not the 1600s
