THE MAJESTY OF JESUS’ PERSON MATTHEW 17:1-13
This is seen in His transfiguration. (SLIDE) MATTHEW 17:1-13

“And he was transfigured before them, and his face shone like the sun, and his clothes became white as light.” About His face. Luke says the appearance of His face was altered (Lk 9:29). About His clothes. Mark says it was as white as snow even more than a launderer could whiten (Mark 9:3). Luke says it became dazzling white (Luke 9:29). Peter would later recall what he witnessed here on this mountain…(SLIDE) M A T T H E W 1 7 : 2

“For we did not follow cleverly devised myths when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were eyewitnesses of his majesty.” This glory of Christ visibly represented His deity as the Son of God (Hebrews 1:1-3). (SLIDE) 2 P E T E R 1 : 1 6

“And behold, there appeared to them Moses and Elijah, talking with him
These two also appeared in glory (Luke 9:31-33). Peter was so moved by seeing these men with Jesus that he wanted to erect three tabernacles. (SLIDE) M A T T H E W 1 7 : 3

“And Peter said to Jesus, ‘Lord, it is good that we are here
“And Peter said to Jesus, ‘Lord, it is good that we are here. If you wish, I will make three tents here, one for you and one for Moses and one for Elijah.’” Moses and Elijah were the epitome of the Law and the Prophets. It appears Jesus had now been elevated to the same level of Moses and Elijah in Peter’s mind. Peter would soon learn that Jesus wasn’t on the same level as Moses and Elijah, no He was much greater!!! THE MAJESTY OF JESUS’ COMING KINGDOM MATTHEW 17:1-13
The majesty of Jesus’ coming kingdom was seen by the voice coming from heave!!! (SLIDE) MATTHEW 17:1-13
10
“He was still speaking when, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them, and a voice from the cloud said, ‘This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased; listen to him.’ ” God was boldly proclaiming He was no longer going to be speaking through the Law and the Prophets but rather through His only begotten Son. Hence the reason Jesus was given all authority on earth and in heaven (Matthew 28:18). Peter, James, and John also recognized the majesty of Jesus’ coming kingdom by the fact that after the bright cloud vanished and the voice went away so too was Moses and Elijah gone. The only one left was Jesus the Christ. (SLIDE) M A T T H E W 1 7 : 5
