5 What books will we be reading?

6 We are really looking forward to teaching Year 6 this year and we have some very engaging and exciting topics that we will be exploring, including: What was the Blitz? How would my life be different if I lived in Asia? Where have all the mills gone? Why did Oliver need to ask for more? In science we will also have the opportunity to investigate topics such as: Light Electricity Evolution Living things The heart

7 Homework Each week your you child will receive weekly spellings linked to their spelling lessons that week. Children will receive these on a Friday will be tested the following Friday. Children are expected to be reading at home at least 3 times a week. Children’s reading records should be signed weekly. Each week children will also receive SATs buster books in which they will be given weekly tasks to complete based on our learning. These will go out on Fridays to be completed by the following Friday. If children do not complete their homework they will have to complete it in loss learning.

8 PE Children will have PE every Monday morning.
Children must have full PE kit which includes: white plain tshirt, black shorts or joggers, pumps or trainers (when outdoors). Children are allowed to come into school in their PE kit to ensure we get the most from our PE slot however full uniform must be brought into school for children to change into afterwards.

9 How can you help you child?
One of the best ways to help your child with their learning is to read with your child every night different types of books and texts. Help your child practise their weekly spellings and complete their CGP maths books. Children in year 6 need to know all their timetables and related facts to 12 x 12. Sitting with your children each week to complete their homework is also a great way to help your child. Attending our ‘Sharing Our Success’ afternoons will help to keep you up to date with what your child is learning. Attending parent evenings is a great way to get a personalised and more detailed update of your child’s learning and progress.

10 How you can contact the teachers?
Year 6 class teachers will be available to speak to you before and after school We will also be available to speak to you on ‘Sharing our Success Days’ and Parent’s Evening

21 What are the benefits of residentials?
A residential is more than just a fun ‘school trip away’, residential trips for schools are a key part of the national curriculum. Residential trips create experiences that enhance pupils’ classroom learning, adding opportunities pupils may not otherwise have, particularly where children have limited access to natural outdoor environments in their day to day learning.  Activity centres can offer a wide range of diverse and exciting activities from developing practical bush craft skills like tracking, foraging and shelter building, to outdoor educational adventures like abseiling, climbing, archery and team games. All exciting and fun activities for pupils to enjoy, but all chosen with specific goals in mind – whether it’s confidence building for children unwilling or unable to engage with their teachers and/or peers in the classroom, teambuilding to encourage pupils to work together, or to encourage independence and a sense of personal responsibility for pupils moving on to a new school or Key Stage. As children are this year preparing to transition into secondary school this is the perfect time for a school residential as they encourage and improve independence preparing them for next year. Finally residential create memories for the children and it is a great opportunity for them to bond as a class. This trip is something that they will vividly remember from their final year at primary school.
