1. Friday 15 September 2017 AGENDA: Synthesis Groups from Yesterday
As a class, walk through texts and how both sides could use it
*Synthesis=texts talk/discuss with each other
Pick your side, reasons, evidence and start writing

2. Mr. Craven’s thoughts/advice
INTRO:
WHAT: which side of the argument are you on? Make it a positive statement!
HOW: you are NOT proving this through 3 texts, you are proving this point through a specific issue in the education system. State that issue and this give your specific reasons/points about that issue that you will use
BODY:
Topic sentence!
Set up/reference your support/evidence (S & E are not the same thing!!!!)
Provide/insert the example/textual support (Doesn’t have to be a direct quote, can be a paraphrase or summary, please be specific! Especially with images. Cite the source!!! (source C) or “As you can see in source C…”
***Analyze/connect/explain! HOW does example/support prove your point?
Then, how does point support argument?
Transition sentence: let reader know you are done talking about this and now you’d like to move on to... (next point or topic)
Make sure you address the counter/other side of the argument. You can not just mention it, you must thoroughly prove why your side is better!

3. DEBATE: 3/7 texts You could use all 7 texts for either argument
Some are better than others, and some work better with another
Identify the 3 texts/combination you have decided to use
Be prepared to defend why your 3 texts/combo is the best to prove your point through your specific issue

4. Monday September 18 AGENDA: Back to your groups from Friday:
Debate the 3/7 texts: Are these the best to prove your point? How do you plan on using them? How do they connect/relate/converse?
Read example essays’ intros only
ID the WHAT (stance/position) and HOW (issue)
Write your intro and start your body
Near complete Rough draft due by tomorrow’s start of class

9. The Trolley decision
There is a runaway trolley barreling down the railway tracks. Ahead, on the tracks, there are five people tied up and unable to move. The trolley is headed straight for them. You are standing some distance off in the train yard, next to a lever. If you pull this lever, the trolley will switch to a different set of tracks. However, you notice that there is one person on the side track. You have two options: (1) Do nothing, and the trolley kills the five people on the main track. (2) Pull the lever, diverting the trolley onto the side track where it will kill one person. Which is the most ethical choice?
