Thimble A pitted cap or cover worn on the finger to push the needle in sewing.

Tape Measure Long plastic or fiberglass strip with marks for measuring: 1. Fabric 2. Patterns 3. Body measurements

Pin Cushion/Grabbit Fabric/Magnetic holder for pins.

Hand sewing needles Needles for hand sewing, quilting and needlework vary in thickness, point shape, length and the size of the needle eye.

Shears vs. Scissors Scissors = often have shorter blades. Handles often have matching holes and are centered. SHEARS = have different sizes holes. Blades are to one side. They are used for cutting fabric.

Scissor/Shears Rules Cut only fabric with shears. Never cut pins.
Don’t drop shears or scissors. Get sharpened when dull. Dull shears will not cut fabric properly!

Marking Pencils & Pens Special pens or pencils that are used to mark fabric when sewing.

Tracing Wheel and Paper
Coated paper comes in assorted colors. Used to transfer markings onto fabric.

Thread A long, thin strand of cotton, nylon, or other fibers used in sewing or weaving.

Embroidery Thread (Floss)
Embroidery thread is yarn that is manufactured or hand-spun specifically for embroidery and other forms of needlework.

Seam Ripper A small sharp tool used to remove stitches.
