Below are the 8 Pathways in Family & Consumer Sciences Education: Child Development Consumer Economics Services Family and Human Services Fashion Design, Manufacturing and Merchandising Food Science, Dietetics and Nutrition Food Service and Culinary Arts Hospitality Services Interior Design

6 State Competency 1st Semester
Identify 2 personal and 1 financial values and set a short and long-term goal that relates to each of these values. Research a career that includes educational requirements, skill development, and income potential. 3. Demonstrate how to complete a personal state and federal tax form. 4. Track your personal income and expenses for 2 weeks. Use your findings to develop a realistic monthly budget 5. Select an item to purchase. Research and compare at least three brands using consumer information resources. Use the decision-making process to determine which product to buy. 6. Demonstrate the ability to use two constructive communication skills. 7. Set personal rules/responsibilities related to dating behaviors that support personal values. Hand out 3 potatoes to 3 different students. They are to get to know their potato and then introduce it to the class later on.

Apply conflict resolution and problem-solving strategies to resolve an identified common source of marital conflict Describe a list of ways to personally build and strengthen a marriage. Develop a realistic monthly budget for a family based upon a set income. 4. Demonstrate how to manage a checking account. Include how a bank statement is reconciled. 5. Evaluate 3 different credit card applications and determine the total cost of an item purchased on credit at 3 different rates of interest 6. Select, implement, and evaluate strategies to strengthen family relationships. 7. Evaluate personal readiness for parenting. 8. Apply positive guidance techniques to resolve three child-rearing problems.

19 WHAT IS PERSONALITY?  More than just an “attitude,” it is what causes you to act and react the way you do.  It is a code of behavior that watches over and guards you telling you how to conduct yourself based on your values and beliefs. – like a parent  It marks our paths and points us in a particular direction making us feel uncomfortable when we deviate from its assigned route  It explains us to ourselves.  Many traits were inherited from your parents and others you acquire. Acquire ones that will help you become a more useful and happy person.  The wise person accepts responsibility for personality characteristics.

22 JELLY BEANS Wouldn’t it be nice if we looked at people and jellybeans and liked them all? We didn’t just choose the people that we thought were pretty or smart, or ate just the red or black jelly beans because they were our favorites, but realized that people and jelly beans come in a variety and we can enjoy something about each one and like them for what they are. Get into a group with people who have your same color of jelly Bean Read over the color’s personality profile and discuss its accuracy.
