3 Leadership In Service of Local Communities
Local Government should be the light that sustains the hope and aspirations of communities, and therefore good leadership in service of society is critical in Local Government! The challenges and opportunities for development of a healthy, vibrant environment should be matched with quality leadership provided. Rising unemployment, limited entrepreneurial opportunities, challenges of limited access to water, sanitation and electricity including low skill levels threaten sustainability of communities. Despite all these challenges, communities are continuously creating new ways of survival and innovations. Outsiders living in our communities? Can we harness their skills connect them meaningfully with locals and achieve dynamic enterprises? Are we staying in touch with dynamic changes in communities, are services provided shaped by positive shifts and developments in communities. Are services customized to meet particular groups like young people in the various phases of their lives? What are their current priorities.

4 Are you a magnet for best talent?
Does local government employ women at the bottom but not at the top? What are leaders in Local Government doing to make Local Government more attractive to leading talent? Partnership with Universities and relevant knowledge and business institutions can enhance policy articulation and implementation whilst developing skills for leadership in Local Government.

5 Local Government in Service of Society
Local Government in Service of Society requires Inclusive Leadership. Communities are demanding participation in shaping developments in their environments! Do we have leadership capacities to govern in dynamic environments? Where are we? Are we really present in communities? Do we reflect their aspirations, needs and resolve their concerns? Communities demand current solutions to pressing problems? Relevant, Responsive, Solution Oriented & Compassionate leadership is required. Rapid technology developments and communication has enhanced “Hyperconnectedness” which suggests the need for new mindsets and models that can lead in the dynamic ever changing environments!

6 Inclusive Leadership & Impact
“Post-truth world, example of a media company built, funded and shaped by its readers!” “Nurses banding together to cut down a bureaucracy” “Pope Francis shifted nature of his Church by empowering his flock” There are clearly new capabilities that organizations need to consider to succeed in a world where humanity is increasingly taking the central stage!

7 Inclusive Leadership & Impact
“Genuinely shift power & distribute to more people including the least powerful amongst us” Local government in service of society, should be responsive to the aspirations, needs and concerns of communities.
