9 Golden Rectangle A square room has been considered the most difficult room to design and is also the least pleasing to the eye. The Golden Rectangle is a rectangle whose proportion of width is 2:3 This proportion is considered the most pleasing.

11 Golden Section The ratio of the smaller portion to the larger is the same as the larger portion to the whole. The progression 2,3,5,8,13,21,34, so on. For example 2:3 is the same as 3:7 Another pleasing ratio is 4:7 These ratios can help designers decide the room sizes and shapes as will as the most pleasing proportions for windows and fireplaces.

12 Golden Section Perhaps the most important application of these proportions in planning and furnishings lies in the relationship of sizes and areas.
