What is persuasion? It’s the process of one person trying to convince someone to do something. A writer might try to persuade someone to take an action, to support a cause, or to change a habit.

Ways to Persuade (Ethos)
Important people or experts can make your argument seem more convincing. Example: Natalie Portman is pretty. Natalie Portman wears Dior. Therefore, Dior makes you pretty.

Ways to Persuade If people believe and trust in you, you’re more likely to persuade them. Example: I lost 50lbs. Thanks, Jenny Craig!

Ways to Persuade (Pathos)
Getting people to feel happy, sad, or angry can help your argument. Example: Help us mend their broken hearts.

Ways to Persuade (Logos)
Facts, numbers, and information can be very convincing. Example: Urea is found in cat urine and also in cigarettes.

Ways to Persuade Using reliable research can be the most convincing argument. Example: A recent study found that children who spend more time watching screens tend to have higher levels of emotional distress, anxiety and depression.

Your letter must include:
The MLA format of a formal letter Which book you are choosing to argue should not be banned or challenged The reasons why it has been banned or challenged The reasons you think why it should not be banned or challenged Why you are credible source (ethos) Emotional reasons (pathos) Logical reason (logos) At least two paragraphs and/or a page in length Preferably typed
