Figure 1 p38α Induced Activation of Purine Metabolism in HSCs under Stress Conditions Upon transplantation, p38α becomes phosphorylated and activated in engrafting HSCs. Activation of the p38MAPK pathway then leads to an increase in the transcription factor Mitf, inducing transcription of genes coding for purine-related enzymes such as Impdh2. This leads to elevated purine metabolism in stressed HSCs, promoting their proliferation to ensure efficient bone marrow repopulation by stressed HSCs.
