Bleeding Tissue Paper Family Portrait
ART TO REMEMBER LESSON: Bleeding Tissue Paper Family Portrait Grade: Kindergarten Supplies: ATR Paper Bleeding Tissue paper – torn into 3” pieces Small cups of water Foam brushes pencil Black sharpie marker Project: Have students draw a stick family portrait with pencil. Include all family members and pets if wanted. Add ground line and other background details. Sharpie all lines Add name to bottom right corner. Making sure it is not too close to the edge of paper. Have students wet their sponge brush and lightly brush their entire paper. NOT TO MUCH WATER! Students can pick several colors of torn tissue paper and lay over the wet paper. Again using a slightly wet sponge brush, have then go over the tissue paper. This will release the ink in the tissue paper dying the white paper. Brighter colors work best Clean off all tissue paper and discard. Let picture dry and then follow ATR guidelines for labeling. Art History Lesson: Helen Frankenthaler is a famous American abstract painter. Born in 1928 in New York City Studied in Mexico Inspired by Jackson Pollock Her style is considered to be abstract expressionism. She used a technique called “stain painting”. This method allows the paint to soak into the paper, mixing the beautiful bright colors. Blue Atmosphere 1963
