Course Description: This course introduces students to a variety of art media including but not limited to: pencil, colored pencil, marker, paint, ink, printmaking, and clay. Students will study the Elements of Art and the Principles of Design and apply them in creating original artwork. Creativity and critical thinking will be emphasized throughout the course, and students will use these skills learn to look at and talk about artwork critically. This course will introduce students to art history and the relationship of arts to different cultures.

Grading Portfolios You will create a portfolio to keep ALL your art projects in FOR THE ENTIRE YEAR. It will be graded periodically. The purpose of the portfolio is to show your progress throughout the course. No artwork should leave school until the course is over and none should be thrown away.

Grading Daily Work Students will have class notes, worksheets, and vocabulary taken up as daily grades. Students who are absent are responsible for getting and completing make up work. Quizzes and Tests After each unit/project there will be a short quiz over terms and techniques used. There will be one midterm and one final exam over all materials covered for those 18 weeks. Students will have 3 Course District Assessments (CDA’s) throughout the course. They are made up of three parts-a portfolio requirement of student work, a self-reflection sheet, and a written test covering art history.

Grading Project Grading Procedure:
The same rubric will is used to grade each project. They are graded on: Creativity and creative process Demonstrating their understanding of the project objectives and requirements Good craftsmanship Being on task during class

CDA’s There is a total of 3 CDAs that you will take over the course of this semester. They cover a wide range of Art History and Art Terms. They will also require you to use your knowledge art periods and new art vocabulary to critique your own work. We will cover

Final Grade Break Down:
Grading Final Grade Break Down: 50% Completed projects and Portfolio checks 30% Notebook and Sketchbook Assignments,Vocabulary, Daily Work, and Quizzes 20% Final Exam, Midterms, CDA’s

***5 Points will be deducted per day for all late work
Grading ***5 Points will be deducted per day for all late work ***Work turned in without a First, Last name, and Period will lose 9 points!*** IT IS THE STUDENTS RESPONSIBILITY TO GET AND MAKE-UP MISSED ASSIGNMENTS DUE TO EXCUSED/UNEXCUSED ABSENCES.ALL ASSIGNMENTS MUST BE MADE UP WITHIN 5 DAYS. Academic Dishonesty Policy:
Academic dishonesty is not tolerated and will be treated as a serious offense. Academic dishonesty includes plagiarism, giving or receiving aid in an examination or where otherwise prohibited, or any other deceptive act in connection with work submitted to meet course requirements. Academic dishonest of any kind will result in a zero.

Art Rules and Requirements
Come in and sit in your assigned seat, put your books and bags under the table or under your seat, and wait for roll call and daily instructions. NO TALKING WHILE THE TEACHER IS TALKING! Do not handle any art materials until the complete instructions have been given. Take care of all supplies and return them to their proper home when you are finished. Clean up your mess and your work area! You made the mess you get to clean it up! Wipe down with a sponge or paper towel if necessary. Check the floor and area around you for supplies and debris. Do what is necessary to clean it up.

Art Rules and Requirements
Work the ENITRE class period quietly. Do not put up your art work until you are instructed to clean up. Raise your hand if you need help, or if you need to get up for supplies. Remain in your assigned seat until I dismiss you. NO ONE LEAVES UNTIL THE ROOM IS CLEAN. Students will be respectful and polite to each other and myself at ALL times. No Food and Drink! Too many materials out that can be dangerous! Electronic devices should only be used for educational purposes WITH TEACHER PERMISSON. Follow all school rules and rules in the student handbook.

Alternate Assignments
Any student who doesn’t show responsibility with materials, maturity during instructions, or whose behavior become unbecoming will be given an alternate writing assignment. This assignment grade will replace the project grade.

Cell phone policy NO PHONES WILL BE CHARGED IN THE CLASSROOM AT ANY TIME! IT IS TOO EASY FOR THEM TO BE TAKEN. ANY LOST OR STOLEN PHONES WILL BE THE STUDENTS RESPONSIBILITY! WE WILL NOT SEARCH FOR LOST ITEMS. SUPERVISE ALL BELONGINGS AT ALL TIMES! CELL PHONES BEING USED DURING INSTRUCTION OR FOR ANYTHING NON ART RELATED IT WILL BE TAKEN UP.
